Trade Show

An Abundance of Caution - Summer Board Meeting

All of us here at the National Tractor Parts Dealer Association (NTPDA) hope this finds you and your family well. Over the past month we've been reaching out to our current and potential members and the bottom line seems to be that you are having a superior season.  We are grateful...stay safe and well. Portland Image

That "safe and well" comment leads us into sharing that the Board recently voted on if we should move forward with our Summer Board Meeting in Portland or if we should not travel and do our Board Meeting remotely. The overwhelming response from the Board was to cancel our trip to Portland and hold our July meeting "on-line". This decision was not made lightly. President Scott polled each board member for their input and at the end of the day he made that decision.  You should know the hotel and staff have been great to work with and they totally understand and are working with us for next year.

The good news is that we hope to be in Portland in July of 2021 and all systems are "GO" for that adventure.

What About Nashville 2021

We're still looking forward to holding our Annual Conference and Trade Show in Nashville in January of next year. Phyllis has been working with the venue and considering speakers and topics.  If you've got a "hot button issue" you might like us to consider get with President Scott, Phyllis or Michael and let us know. As always, we love hearing from our members.

Tim Muller March 2020Speaking of Members

It took a bit of time but we can now announce that Granit Parts has been officially welcomed as an Associate Member.  We've had extensive conversation with members who may have taken issue with admitting Granit and in the end it was decided to bring Timm Mueller and his company in. We look forward to having them join us in January.  Many of our current members have already met Timm and for those of you who have not we hope to fix that next year.

Stay in Touch

While we're making phone calls every day to our current and potential members we remind you to stay in touch with us. If you have new, news about your company please share it with us and we'll do our best to share it with the world.  Follow us on Facebook and if you use Twitter you'll find us here: @NTPDA.

Thanks for reading...and...stay well!

Twitter Basics

Several weeks ago we shared with you that we've done a "social media audit" of our NTPDA members. Just to see what social media platforms they are using and what we might do to better help our members communicate with their customers. We've already looked at Facebook now a peek at Twitter. Twitter Logo 2019

We found a minority of our members on the Twitter Platform. Most likely that's because they may not be aware of how many people in agriculture are already there and think it's not worthwhile. Nothing could be further from the  truth. If you go to Twitter and search for #Farming #Agriculture #Harvest19 you'll find a host of farmers and ranchers there talking about their experiences. You'll also find some of the major equipment retail centers using Twitter to inform folks about their offerings, pricings, etc.

In other words: Twitter is a happening place.

So, let's set out some basics for Twitter use...ready?

  • Have a Plan - Just like with Facebook you need to have a plan for Twitter. What you want is to share information that farmers and ranchers find useful. That is a BUNCH better than using the platform simply for selling stuff. So, think about what you know about parts and agriculture that others might find useful and then create a calendar of what to talk about;
  • Your Business Blog - We've said for YEARS that every business should have a business blog that is attached to your website. That gives you more power from search engines AND you get to tell YOUR story in your own words. But then...what do you do with your blog?  Share it on Twitter. Again if you are sharing information farmers and ranchers find valuable...you win;
  • When to Tweet - We've always thought that the best times to Tweet is when your customers are active on their computers...makes sense right? However with so many farmers and ranchers using their phones to interact that means your customer isn't tied down to a computer screen. He or she might be waiting at the grain elevator or on the combine scrolling through social media and making comments.  Bottom line is that if you are active so too is your customer;
  • How to Tweet - You can jump on Twitter and create an account for FREE. However we think it's wise to purchase a subscription to a system that will allow you to manage your Twitter stream more effectively. There are several out there. We've used Hootsuite for years. It gives you the flexibility to follow others, schedule your Tweets and see what is going on at a glance;
  • Use Images - People respond to images more than just words. Make sure your Tweets have images most of the time;
  • Tweet Often - Twitter is like a message board that constantly is moving. If you Tweet, say at 6:00AM but not again until Noon you've lost six hours of "eyeballs". We recommend tweeting at least eight to twelve times a day. By using your automated system that's pretty easy to do;
  • Don't Link to Facebook - OK...we know some of you do but your Tweet shows up like this: "facebook.com7476982" or something like that. The reader has NO idea what you've posted. Facebook and Twitter are two very different animals. If you are going to link to Facebook make sure you post what it's about;
  • Re-Tweeting - One of the best ways to engage is by retweeting posts you think are interesting and/or valuable. And, as a favor, always RT our Tweets...please;
  • Using the Hashtag - Once you've been on Twitter for a bit you'll get the hang of Hashtags. It's how to search for something or to keep a topic fresh. You can even set your search for a # Hashtag. For example, like in the opening of this post... #Agriculture put that into Twitter and see what people are talking about when it comes to topics.  This is really handy when you are at a trade show and there is a Hashtag for the event. NTPDA uses #NTPDA20 as the Hashtag for our upcoming annual meeting in Phoenix.

There you have it...some very basic thoughts about Tweeting for Business. As always let us know if you've got questions or comments. You can leave those here on this post!  Thanks for reading and being an NTPDA Member!

Say "Yes!" to Phoenix in 2020

For those of you who were part of the fantastic National Tractor Parts Dealer Association Annual Meeting & Trade Show that just ended in Mobile, Alabama you KNOW ho much this means for not only business but also building relationships with fellow members.

However, for those of you who did not make the trip here is a quick video with some sights and sounds of our time together. Perhaps you'll catch the fever to be with us in Phoenix in January of 2020 or in social media #NTPDA20.

Not only does your association do great things for our members we also believe in "giving back". Last night at the St. Jude Auction member raised over $11,300 for the children's charity. Well done and it's how your association family rolls.

Look, next year we're at a wonderful venue in the Phoenix area...and, if you start planning now (like we are) Harrah Casino Floor you'll be prepared to join us for our 36th Annual Meeting and Trade Show which promises to be even bigger and better than Mobile.  Some things to consider:

  • Talk with your Board Members about what you would like to see in 2020;
  • Visit with us about your business needs and how we can assist in building your business;
  • Start to set aside some funds for airfare and lodging. A little set aside each month goes a long way;
  • Reach out to us with suggestions for our display area and networking.

The NTPDA is here for you and your business.

We hope to see you, through the year, and watch for our Summer Session in Sioux Falls.  Safe travels and thank you all for your membership and your interest in your association.

Memories & Join Us in Mobile, Alabama!

Mobile Card WelcomeSo often when we visit with members of NTPDA they tell us one of the main reasons they continue to come to our Annual Meeting and Trade Show is to re-connect with long time friends, do some business and learn how to run a more successful business.

All great reasons!

So, let's take a look at some images from the past and some images from our upcoming Annual Meeting and Trade Show in Mobile, Alabama. It's going to be great and, if you want to register right now...here is that link!

Nice huh?  Hope to see you in Mobile!

Corpus Christi - NTPDA18 Photos

If you missed our gathering in Corpus Christi you missed an exciting and valuable event. Sure we learned new tactics about hiring and marketing and met new people. We also had a TON of FUN. One of the great things about NTPDA Membership is the personal connections we make through the years. Here is just a small sample of our time in Corpus Christi during NTPDA18!

NTPDA18 Photos for BLOGWe hope you'll join us next year! In the meantime follow us on Facebook and on Twitter it's @NTPDA. We hope you arrived safely and are ready to put what you learned in Corpus Christi to work in your business.

Thank You Members!

The National Tractor Parts Dealer Association is coming up next month in Corpus Christi. (If you have not yet registered here is that link.) It promises to be Thank You Written
warmer there and we've got a great line up of business education and "down-time" for all of us to enjoy.

Each year we ask our membership if they might be willing to help NTPDA with sponsorship of our various events and each year we get to say "Thank YOU!" to a great group of members who step up to help their association. Here's an updated list of those sponsors, click through to visit them...and yep we truly appreciate the help!

It's hard to believe that in just a month we'll be gathering for the National Tractor Parts Dealer Association Annual Trade Show and Corpus Christi SkylineConference! With all the holiday cheer and excitement it's sometimes easy to forget about the middle of January...  We get it. If you have not yet registered and made plans to join us in Corpus Christi now is the time to make that happen. Here is a link to our registration page complete with the schedule of events and our top of the line speakers.

Come to Corpus Christi, where we hope it will be much warmer, and hang out, have some fun and learn how to become a better business owner/manager/employee. (A nudge to our Canadian Members...think...warm!)

Coming up a THANK YOU to so many who have decided to help NTPDA with sponsorship. We figure a little recognition is in order...right?

See you in Corpus Christi...remember, just a month away.
