The National Tractor Parts Dealer Association (NTPDA) is made up of some of the finest companies on the planet. Our organization has been around for nearly four decades helping our Regular and Associate members build relationships and their business. You can learn more about us at NTPDA.com. Thanks for coming by!

Open For Business

During the past week we at the National Tractor Parts Dealer Association (NTPDA) have been reaching out to our members and visiting about their business Open Sign and their families. We've talked to dozens of people and we're hearing that, compared to last year, business has been really good. "Farmers have been in the mood to fix and repair what they have and because planting season is coming up they are busy and they are buying", was one comment we heard often.

Meanwhile the biggest concern shared with us was that if business starts to falter what that might do to their employees. "I've never laid off a person since we started this business," said one of our members. "My goal is to stick with it. We had a tough time several years ago and we kept everybody working. I hope to do that now and into the future."

Commodity prices are also playing a part in how farmers are dealing with fixing and repairing their equipment. One of our members told us, "You know, if the commodities were higher maybe we wouldn't be so busy. Farmers have had a rough couple of years so buying new doesn't seem to be on the mind of many."

One of the very cool things about this association is that we all know each other, do business with each other and, generally, like each other. That always comes out in these conversations when we talk about family. It's important to them and it's also important to us so we talk about kids, grandkids, husbands wives and parents.

One final thought. Human connection is important. We've noticed that phone calls that may have been over in three or four minutes now linger as people want to stay connected and talk. It's been a pleasure to spend fifteen or twenty minutes talking business, family and friends. It's what we...do.

If we have not yet connected with you be assured you're on our list and remember on March 24 we'll celebrate National Agriculture Day.

Thanks for reading and stay safe and well.

Guest Blog - Hy-Capacity "Massey Harvest"

The National Tractor Parts Dealer Association (NTPDA) welcomes guest blog posts from our members. Here in "Massey Harvest" by Claire Varangkounh of Hy-Capacity you'll learn about the images within the image and what they mean. (You can click on the painting to enlarge.) Hy Cap Image Feb 2020

Charles Freitag created six paintings for Hy-Capacity. Most prints feature founders and original distributors. However, this particular painting is different. This print is called “Massey Harvest.” Featured is employee number one, Greg Beekman, driving the Massey Ferguson 1135 Tractor. Greg still works at Hy-Capacity today.

Greg grew up on a farm near Pocahontas, Iowa. For several years, he traveled in and out of town to collect parts from the local John Deere dealer. Around 1978, a new company moved into that same three-room Quonset, the company that is now Hy-Capacity. Hy-Capacity had three locations in Iowa at the time: Pocahontas, Bode, and Hardy. In 1980, Hy-Capacity moved to the building it is in today in Humboldt. This was the first time all production was done under the same roof.

Greg began working in Teardown and disassembling clutches. Over the years, he has trained several employees, including some that are still at Hy-Capacity today. After a few years of working in Teardown, Greg was promoted to water pump assembly and spent almost twenty years in that area. Within those twenty years, he gathered information and became proficient in building water pumps. Greg took part in developing a large portion of the water pump product line we offer today. Greg used his knowledge to train other employees. Once they were able to manage the water pump assembly, he decided to take on a new role at Hy-Capacity. Greg recognized he could improve the company processes by returning to Teardown and managing the production flow. He helped Teardown become a more efficient service center for the remanufactured product lines.

Hy-Capacity is a nearly 42-year-old company, and in February 2019 Greg celebrated his 40th year of service. He has essentially been a part of this company since the beginning. Greg has not only made an impact at Hy-Capacity; he has made a positive impact on others. Fellow members at Hy-Capacity know Greg as a dedicated, respectful person with good character. We are lucky to have him on our team.

Member News - ASAP Acquires Fawcett Tractor Supply

In National Tractor Parts Dealer Association News, All States Ag Parts (ASAP) has acquired Fawcett Tractor Supply of St. Mary's, Ontario giving the company a ASAP Logo new outlet in Canada. The acquisition will allow ASAP to market ag parts to Canadian farms, ranches and dairies and it is their 13th retail location.

Asked about the acquisition John Dyke, CEO of All States Ag Parts said, "This is a great acquisition for us. We currently have 10 salvage yards, but this will be our first location in Canada. Up until now we were not able to serve the Canadian farmers with the prices and product selection we would like by shipping from the U.S. The Fawcett operation will allow us to ship more quickly and at a much more economical rate to farmers throughout Canada.”

Dyke added that the Fawcett family will continue to manage the St. Mary’s Ontario operation and all current employees will be offered employment with All States Ag Parts.

Fawcett Logo“Being part of All States Ag Parts is a great opportunity to improve our ability to take care of customers.” said Jeff Fawcett, “We’ll have access to our current inventory, but also the inventory from 9 additional salvage yards along with hundreds of thousands of new aftermarket parts. There’s not a part that we shouldn’t be able to supply.”

When contacted by NTPDA Jeff Fawcett added that he is looking forward to the new opportunity and will be with us in Phoenix for NTPDA20 in January

The St. Mary’s, ON location will continue to operate under the Fawcett Tractor Supply name.
